With the RVCS 70s & 80s 2011 Reunion successfully behind us, and having had 50% of 70s & 80s alumni involved in the site, we're so excited for this next phase... officially expanding to include ALL RVCS GRADUATES, TEACHERS & HONORARY ALUMNI! Yay!!! That's 22 more years of Eagles we're catching up on. Your help during this period of growth is greatly appreciated, so Please Spread The Word to ALL your friends and former teachers about this site. If you're in the Bay Area don't miss out on this wonderful celebration. During the day immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of San Francisco's exhilarating Chinatown during one of the community's most exciting times of the year. Savor dance music from throughout Asia and experience ancient and modern Chinese arts such as calligraphy, kite making and acrobatics. In the evening enjoy what's been named one of the top ten parades in the world by IFEA, the Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco is one of the few remaining night illuminated parades in the country. Started in the 1860s by the Chinese in San Francisco as a means to educate the community about their culture, the parade and festival have grown to be the largest celebration of Asian culture outside of Asia. Since 1958, the parade has been under the direction of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce. Parade highlights include elaborate floats, lion dancers, folk dancers, costumed elementary school groups, marching bands, stilt walkers, Chinese acrobats, and a 250 foot long Golden Dragon ("Gum Lung.")
The delights of this parade and festival go on regardless of weather, so if you're up for a day of fabulous food, fascinating culture, and a firecracker filled parade then San Francisco's Chinatown is the place to be Saturday, February 11, 2012.
